Longtime state senator Joe Bolkcom has announced he won’t seek re-election in 2022. Bolkcom made the announcement Thursday on YouTube and Twitter.
Bolkcom, whose district includes parts of Iowa City, University Heights, Hills, and unincorporated areas of East Lucas Township, was first elected to the Iowa Senate in 1998. He previously served on the Johnson County Board of Supervisors.
Bolkcom serves on a number of senate committees, and is the current chair of the Ways and Means committee.
