The GuideLink Center in Iowa City will remain closed until Wednesday morning after an assault incident this afternoon.

According to a release from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, law enforcement was called to the Center on Southgate Avenue after an individual came into the building and began physically assaulting staff members. Once officers arrived on scene, the individual began assaulting them, and the individual was detained.

A backpack was left on scene by the individual, which was removed by the Johnson County Metro Bomb Team. The scene has been determined to be safe, but the Guidelink Center will remain closed until Wednesday at 6 am.

The Bomb Team also went to the Capitol House Apartments on Dubuque Street as part of their investigation. Some occupants were evacuated, but allowed to return later without incident.
