An Iowa City man wanted on warrants for drug possession and interference with official acts was spotted and arrested Sunday.

An officer spotted 32-year-old Adam Vanourney of Amhurst Street on a bike in the 1600 block of South First Street at approximately 8 pm. The officer activated his lights and siren to make a traffic stop, but Vanourney allegedly continued to peddle away. The officer followed him until he got off his bike and hid behind a vehicle. Vanourney was quickly found and arrested.

A search of his person and belongings reportedly turned up 2 small plastic baggies containing a rock-like substance and a meth pipe. Vanourney was Mirandized and admitted the substance was meth.

Having been convicted twice for drug possession, Vanourney was charged with Class D Felony drug possession, along with Interference with Official Acts and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Back on January 10th, an officer attempted to stop Vanourney on a simple infraction, but he pedaled away in that instance as well. After a short chase, he crashed and was taken into custody. He was charged with Interference with Official Acts and Possession of drug  paraphernalia and didn’t show up for his trial on May 25th, which caused the warrant to be issued.

Vanourney faces a prison sentence of over five years if convicted on the old and new charges.
