Iowa City Police identify victim of weekend shooting

Iowa City Police have identified the victim of a weekend shooting outside a nightclub near downtown.

According to an ICPD news release, officers were called to H Bar on South Van Buren Street just before 2:00 Sunday morning for a report of six gunshots in the alley. Officers arrived on-scene and located an adult male suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was transported via ambulance to a local hospital, where he later died.

The victim has now been identified as 36-year-old Waymond Thomas of Iowa City.

The incident remains under active investigation, and police are encouraging all members of the public with camera footage or other information to contact them at 319-356-5275.

The Gazette reports that there have been 173 police calls for service at the H Bar so far this year. The calls vary from 911 hangups and  noise complaints to foot patrol  and suspicious activity.
