Nurses and other healthcare professionals at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics have voted overwhelmingly to recertify their union.

That’s according to a news release from the union itself, SEIU Healthcare Minnesota & Iowa. The group says 98.6% of the 57% of UIHC staffers who took part in the election voted “yes” to maintain their union.

The vote covers over 3,800 nurses and professionals at the UIHC. The union notes the workers had to take time from their work to vote because of state legislation that requires any public sector union to turn out a majority of workers every two years or the union and contract are dissolved.
