Allegedly spitting on an Iowa City Police officer has led to additional charges against a drunk driving suspect.
42-year-old Erica Fering was seen by police pulling into a parking space outside her Ellis Avenue apartment just before 6:15 Sunday night. 9-1-1 dispatchers had received a report that Fering was possibly driving while intoxicated.
Fering allegedly showed signs of impairment. She was reportedly vulgar towards officers, and at one point spit on one of them and tried to spit on another. Fering was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated – 2nd Offense, Interference with Official Acts and two counts of Assault on Peace Officers. If convicted on all counts, she faces a maximum of over four years in prison.
