University of Iowa Police have arrested an area man after a butt-slapping incident on campus.

According to the university’s Department of Public Safety, officials received a report of forcible fondling, a form of sexual assault, that occurred during the daytime hours on Monday near the Iowa Memorial Union. According to the report, a man wearing a black sweatshirt and black ball cap slapped the victim’s buttocks while riding past her on a bicycle. The victim did not know who the man was.

UI Police identified 34-year-old Rusty Guthmiller as the suspect in the forcible fondling case. He was arrested Monday evening following a second incident of assault.

Guthmiller faces two counts of simple assault. He was taken to the Johnson County Jail Monday night, and has since been released. If convicted for both incidents, he could be sentenced to up to 60 days in jail.

UI Police have banned Guthmiller from the University of Iowa campus.
