Registration is open for the Iowa City Emergency Services Youth Camp, taking place over two sessions in July at Fire Station #4 on North Dubuque Road.

A session for rising junior high students is scheduled for July 10-11, while the session for rising high school students is scheduled for July 13-14. Participants are required to attend both days of camp.

The camp is designed for students with an interest in public safety, want to learn more about emergency services, or are just looking for a fun, hands-on camp this summer. Topics include Basic fire department emergency operations, including the use of ropes and knots, ladders, hoses, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, and firefighter turnout gear. Participants will also learn about  Emergency Management Services including CPR, First Aid, Ambulance Ops, Special Response Team, Crime Scene Investigation, and the Johnson County Metro Bomb Squad.

The camp will be hosted by the Iowa City Fire Department, Iowa City Police Department, Iowa City Animal Services, University of Iowa Department of Public Safety, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Johnson County Ambulance Service, and Johnson County Emergency Management.

There’s no cost to attend, but there’s a limit to how many can attend each session. Spots will be filled on a first come, first served basis.
