An Iowa City man was taken into custody after a verbal argument with his domestic partner reportedly turned violent.

According to the arrest reports, 35-year-old Keith Kemp and the victim argued throughout Tuesday night. He allegedly took the woman’s bag, which contained her cellphone.  When she tried to get the bag back, Kemp reportedly pushed her. The woman then instructed her children to call the police and record the interaction. Kemp then allegedly took his daughter’s phone from her hand while she was attempting to record him, and threw it into the back yard. He then reportedly pushed the woman’s children.

Police say Kemp then went downstairs and punched a hole through the TV and a mirror, putting the victim and her children in further fear of physical harm.

Kemp was arrested and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault and Child Endangerment. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to 25 months in jail. A no-contact order was requested between Kemp and the members of the household.
