Cedar Rapids Police are investigating a fatal, Friday night motor vehicle rollover on Interstate 380.
According to a CRPD news release, just after 10:45pm officers were called to I-380 northbound near the 7th St NE bridge…near Cedar River Tower…and found a single vehicle off the roadway, overturned, and the driver deceased.
Witnesses say the vehicle…which was driven by 19-year-old Jessica Youngton of Cedar Rapids…moved across several lanes of traffic, struck a guardrail, rolled, and stopped under the 7th St NE bridge. No other vehicles or injuries were reported in the incident. Cedar Rapids Police closed northbound I-380 for several hours to allow responders access to the scene and conduct their investigation.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
