ACT is planning over one-hundred layoffs at its Iowa City facility.

That’s according to a report in the Cedar Rapids Gazette, which says the company has filed a layoff notice with the state indicating the company plans to let 106 employees go by July 1st. The newspaper also says the company is in the process of selling more of its property just off Scott Boulevard.  ACT officials cited what they call “large-scale, rapid changes”, including increasing demand for on-line offerings.

The company also plans to sell its main campus, citing more employees wishing to work from home. The Iowa City Community School District already bought ACT’s Tyler Building in an $8.7 million deal last year.

ACT told the Gazette it still plans to have a presence in Iowa City, including a new downtown office space.
