An Iowa City woman has been arrested after police say she threatened to burn a man’s family alive and defecate on his grave.

37-year-old Kayleanne Picek of Westwinds Drive was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 11:45 Saturday night. Iowa City Police say on Thursday night, Picek and the alleged victim were in a text conversation where she demanded a relationship with him. The two had been in a previous seven-year relationship. The man declined, leading to more, similar inquiries over the next two days. The man again declined them all.

Picek reportedly became upset after being turned down multiple times and began bringing up the man’s past relationships, including one with the mother of one of his children. Police say Picek threatened to burn the woman alive and ruin her life by making false statements about her that would compromise her future. She also allegedly threatened to burn the man’s family alive and to “destroy” the man’s eight-year-old child.

Picek reportedly sent the man screenshots of his child’s mother’s address and phone number, as well as those of her relatives.  She also allegedly told the man to kill himself so she could show up at the funeral and defecate on his grave.

On Friday night, the man told Picek to stop contacting him. Police say that was followed up by five more text messages, a threat to burn the man’s mother, and 74 phone calls from a blocked number. Two of the phone calls were answered, with a woman sounding like Picek threatening to “destroy” the man’s family. That conversation was recorded on the man’s iPad.

The man received 25 more calls from a blocked number after he was visited by the Department of Human Services on Saturday.

Picek is charged with 2nd Degree Harassment. If convicted she faces a maximum of one year in jail.
