A stovetop fire got out of control, leading to the displacement of a Cedar Rapids family.
The incident occurred just before 6:30 pm Tuesday on the 1200 block of Bluestone Street Northwest. The homeowner was cooking when a fire occurred on the stovetop. After unsuccessfully trying to extinguish the fire themselves, a 911 call was placed.
Arriving firefighters were able to quickly control and extinguish the fire, which damaged the kitchen and permeated the first floor with smoke.
No injuries were reported, and the couple and children were displaced due to the damage.
It’s unknown whether smoke alarms were working at the time of the incident, which remains under investigation.
