A Coralville man is accused of kicking an Iowa City Police officer in the groin.

Police were flagged down by concerned citizens near the intersection of South Linn Street and Iowa Avenue just after 2am Saturday for an intoxicated male lying on the sidewalk. The subject, later identified as 26-year-old Davon Bell of 21st Avenue Place, reportedly showed multiple signs of intoxication. Police say Bell refused to cooperate for 20 minutes on a place where he could go for the night. Bell then reportedly became aggressive, eventually striking an officer’s hand.

As he was being arrested for Public Intoxication, Bell allegedly kicked an officer in the groin. Bell reportedly refused to stay on the exam bed after being taken to a nearby hospital, and police say he kicked at officers who tried to get him back into the squad car.

Bell was additionally charged with Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 14 months in jail.
