Cedar Rapids police are investigating a weekend overnight shooting that resulted in a fatality.
According to a release from the CRPD, the incident occurred shortly after midnight Sunday. Police were called to the 1300 block of 1st Ave SE for the report of shots fired and a 23-year-old male victim needing medical attention. Officers arrived on-scene and located the victim outside the address suffering from gunshot wounds. He was given immediate medical attention and transported to a local hospital where he was later declared deceased as a result of his wounds.
This appears to be a targeted incident; the investigation is active and ongoing.
