The Iowa Board of Regents are meeting in Iowa City this week, and will be conducting a review of its three state-run university presidents.

The Ames Tribune reports the nine-member board will enter a closed session Tuesday, and may consider raises at the tail-end of Wednesday’s meeting.

Also on the agenda is a tuition hike. Regents will be voting on a 3 ½ percent increase that would go into effect before the start of the fall semester. Inflation is being cited as the overriding factor in the increase.

If approved, yearly tuition for in-state students would rise about $300, putting the University of Iowa above the $9000 mark.

KCJJ previously reported that the University of Iowa will ask the Regents for approval to construct a nearly quarter-billion dollar Health Sciences Academic building. They’re also asking the Regents to cede ownership of a portion of the Iowa Research Park in Coralville to make it more attractive for developers who would be able to purchase parcels outright and not have to enter into sublease agreements.
