An area transient was taken into custody on a warrant stemming from a domestic incident involving the person who has a no-contact order against him last month.

Officers were dispatched to the Town and Campus Apartments the evening of May 27th on reports of the no-contact order violation. The victim told the 911 dispatcher that 29-year-old Jamal Cotton had assaulted her but he had grabbed his belongings and left.

Upon arrival, officers reportedly found the victim bleeding profusely from the nose and found broken glass and a broken mirror in the apartment.

Cotton already has a previous conviction for Domestic Assault, and was charged this past March for a second offense as part of a multi-charge incident. Cotton pleaded guilty and is due to be sentenced June 30th.  He faces up to 11 years in prison.

A warrant was issued for Cotton’s arrest; he was taken into custody Saturday afternoon. He was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault and violation of the No Contact order. If convicted on the new assault charge, he could be sentenced to up to two years in jail.
