An Iowa City man was arrested after allegedly helping himself to bottles of wine and consuming them at a downtown market.

According to arrest reports, 51-year-old Jason Roling of Sherman Street was at the Bread Garden Market just before noon on May 31st.  He reportedly opened bottles of wine and consumed them without paying. Roling then allegedly took food from the salad bar and started eating the food inside the store.

Police say Roling walked out of the store with items and did not pay for anything he consumed or took.

Surveillance photos were provided to police, who identified Roling from previous contact.  When interviewed about the incident, he stated he did some “wine tasting” at the market.

A warrant was issued for Roling’s arrest on Monday; he was arrested Tuesday night and charged with 3rd degree Theft, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail term of up to two years if convicted.
