A new Iowa Poll from the Des Moines Register, NBC News and Mediacom shows almost two-thirds of likely Iowa Republican caucus-goers do not believe former president Donald Trump has committed any serious crimes.

Despite being indicted in four criminal cases in the last five months, 65% of likely caucus-goers believe he has not committed any serious crimes, 26 percent believe he has, and 9 percent are not sure.

The Register also reports Trump’s support among likely GOP caucus-goers, either as a first choice, second choice or as a candidate they’re “actively considering,” increased after the Georgia indictment was announced. The figure was at 55 percent when polling was about one-third complete; and jumped to 67 percent when polling was complete.

The poll also says 48% of independent voters believe Trump has committed serious crimes.

The Register/NBC News/Mediacom poll was conducted by Selzer & Company of Des Moines and is based on interviews with 406 registered Iowa voters who say they will definitely or probably attend the 2024 Republican caucuses.
