A West Liberty resident was killed in a two-vehicle accident south of Nichols.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, at about 6:00 Saturday morning a 2015 Ford Explorer was northbound on Highway 70 when it crossed the centerline near the intersection with 200th Street and struck a southbound 2011 Chevy Malibu head-on. The driver of the Malibu, who the State Patrol says was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene. The victim has only been identified as a resident of West Liberty.

The State Patrol says a four-year-old was restrained in a car seat inside the victim’s vehicle. Two unidentified subjects were transported via West Liberty Ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with unspecified injuries.
