By Iowa standards, it was on offensive explosion as Iowa defeated Rutgers Saturday night here at Kinnick Stadium, 22-0.

The Hawkeyes only led 6-0 at halftime on a pair of Drew Stevens field goals coming from 32 and 43 yards out. Stevens missed his first attempt from 47 yards on Iowa’s opening drive.

The first touchdown of the game came on a 4 yard run from Jazium Patterson 1:22 into the fourth quarter. An officials’ review determined the attempted two-point conversion pass from Deacon Hill to Kaleb Brown came just short of the goal line, leaving Iowa with a 12-0 lead. Stevens added a 24 yard field goal on the next possession.Iowa’s Quinn Schulte sealed the game with an interception near midfield that he returned to the Rutgers 9 yard line. That led to a ten-yard touchdown reception for Brown and a 22-0 Hawkeye lead.

It was Iowa’s first Big Ten shutout since 2019 against Northwestern.

Hill had Iowa’s best passing game of the season, going 20-of-31 for 223 yards.

The Hawkeyes racked up 402 yards of total offense, including 179 on the ground.
Wisconsin, Nebraska and Minnesota all lost earlier in the day, giving Iowa a two-game lead in the Big Ten West with two games remaining in the regular season.
