A Shelter House resident has been arrested after a reported late night assault.

Iowa City Police say 41-year-old Sean Burtlow was involved in a physical altercation near the intersection of Lucas and Burlington Streets just before 11:00 Wednesday night. Burtlow reportedly told police the other subject charged at him, and he only assaulted the other man in self-defense.

The alleged victim and a witness claim Burtlow was standing over the man throwing punches as he lay on the ground, causing injuries to the man’s face.

Burtlow reportedly tried walking away from arriving police despite being told to stop, and he allegedly refused to give his name.

Burtlow is charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.
