After just three months, Iowa City area residents are embracing fare-free transportation.

According to a release from the city, in the month of October, Iowa City Transit saw an increase of 45,009 passenger trips when compared to October 2022.

Overall, since launching in August, ridership has increased 44% the past three months when compared to last year. In total, there have been 135,191 additional trips over that time as well.

City staff estimates that the increase of transit ridership has equaled to a reduction of 98 metric tons of tailpipe CO2 from personal vehicles.
