Johnson County Administration Building temporarily closed and under construction until the summer of 2024

Johnson County news release

Johnson County, Iowa – The Johnson County Administration Building, 913 S. Dubuque St., Iowa City, is closed and undergoing a significant remodel to better serve the residents of Johnson County. The remodel will enhance safety, accessibility, and productivity, aligning with the county’s core values while ensuring the efficient delivery of services for decades to come.

To ensure continued service, all County services typically available at the Administration Building are now located across the street in the Health and Human Services Building, 855 S. Dubuque St., Iowa City. Johnson County anticipates completion of the project in the summer of 2024.

Construction will involve the installation of a new HVAC and fire suppression system, along with major accessibility upgrades and other service-centered improvements. This will create additional space for future County needs.

Funding for this project will be sourced through a combination of general funds and American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) federal funds, with a firm commitment that taxes will not be raised to finance the remodel.
