Democratic State Representative Dave Jacoby of Coralville will participate in a town hall on Wednesday to increase awareness of proper treatment of animals at puppy mills in Iowa.
Hosted by PAWS & More, the USDA, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the town hall is for dog breeders to ask questions and learn about best practices for dog breeding and dealing with what necessities there are for running an operation that treats animals. The town hall will be held at the Wellman Banquet Hall on Wednesday from 9:00 am -12:00 pm.
Earlier this year, Jacoby sent a letter to Governor Kim Reynolds requesting immediate collaboration with puppy mill owners to hold them accountable.
Iowa currently has the highest number of puppy mills in the nation and is expanding its lead over other states. During the second quarter of 2022, 23 Iowa breeders and brokers were cited for violations by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
