All charges have been dropped against the suspect in a shooting earlier this year on the Ped Mall.

Earlier this month Judge Kevin McKeever dismissed charges of Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon With Injury or Provoking Fear, Going Armed With Intent, Reckless Use of a Firearm Causing Damage, Trafficking in Stolen Weapons, and two counts of Assault While Using or Displaying a Weapon against 30-year-old Dante Yance of Primrose Court. Online records do not indicate the reason for the dismissals, although Yance’s competency was brought into question during the course of the investigation.

Iowa City Police say Yance shot at another subject on the Clinton Street side of the Ped Mall just before 4pm on January 14th.

Yance was located and detained at the intersection of East College and South Clinton Streets. Evidence of shots fired was recovered at the scene, including damage from bullets that struck the Old Capitol Town Center. No one was injured.

Yance allegedly admitted to shooting the gun and said he threw his Glock 43 into a dumpster near Brother’s, where it was later located.

If convicted on all charges, Yance would have faced a maximum of 26 years in prison.
