Swisher man charged with OWI after spinning out on snowy road

A Swisher man was taken into custody early Sunday morning after allegedly being found intoxicated while spinning out on a snowy road.

An Iowa City police officer observed 22-year-old Dylan Kacena driving a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee near North Dodge Street and Bristol Drive at around 2:30am. He rapidly accelerated around a comer, causing the vehicle to fishtail and spin out.

Kacena reportedly righted the vehicle, and then rapidly accelerated and reached 69 MPH in a 45 MPH zone on a roadway covered in compacted snow.

Upon contact, Kacena allegedly had bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech, poor balance, and smelled of ingested alcohol. alcohol. He reportedly admitted to drinking, failed field sobriety tests, and a PBT. A  Datamaster test showed his BAC at 0.108%.

Kacena was charged with first offense OWI, a serious misdemeanor.
