Former UI Student has suit against UI and fraternity dismissed

A former University of Iowa student allegedly involved in the sexual assault of a female student at a frat house has had his counter suit dismissed by the courts.

The Daily Iowan reports that Jacob Meloan failed to follow Iowa rules of service of process. Judge Christopher Bruns dismissed Meloan’s case on January 2nd as Meloan had not properly served the defendants by December 29th. There were 24 defendants named in the lawsuit, consisting of former UI students, faculty, and friends of the alleged victim, Makena Solberg.

Meloan and another FIJI frat member are accused of sexually assaulting Solberg at a party in September 2020.  The trial is to take place November 5th in Tama County after a change of venue was granted.
