An Illinois man has reached a plea deal after his reported involvement in an Iowa City shooting over four years ago.
31-year-old David Glee of Chicago entered a guilty plea on Monday. Glee is accused of opening fire near the intersection of Brown and Governor Streets on the evening of January 28th, 2020. Responding officers found an SUV crashed into a parked car, with both vehicles struck by gunfire.
The driver of the SUV was found nearby suffering from two gunshot wounds. He told officers he was giving a ride to an unknown subject when they pulled out a black handgun with an extended magazine. The driver then jumped out of the SUV, which caused it to crash. He was shot when he began to run away, and provided few other details.
Investigators found at least 27 shots fired, striking the two vehicles, a home, and a tree.
Police later found Glee at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids with a grazing gunshot wound to his head. His blood matched blood found at the scene, and he was reportedly found in possession of a stolen gun that matched the bullets found at the scene.
Glee was charged with Trafficking in Stolen Weapons, Dominion or Control of a Firearm as a Felon, Reckless Use of a Firearm Causing Bodily Injury, and Reckless use of a Firearm with Property Damage. If convicted on all counts, Glee could have been sentenced to up to 22 years in prison.
Terms of the plea deal have not been released, and a sentencing date has not yet been set.
