Area transient accused of trying to throw coffee on clerk after being confronted for theft

An area transient faces charges after allegedly trying to throw hot coffee on a convenience store clerk.

According to the police report, 59-year-old Randolph McClaine was caught stealing items out of the Kum & Go on Muscatine Avenue at approximately 2:25am Thursday.  He allegedly tried to throw coffee at the clerk who confronted him and then reportedly took more items before leaving the store without paying.

A warrant was issued later that day, and McClaine was arrested. He faces charges of 3rd degree Theft and 2nd offense aggravated theft.  If convicted on both charges, he could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison if convicted.
