A Davenport man was arrested for meth possession Saturday morning when he was reportedly called in for a welfare check.

65-year-old Vernon Jones was reportedly lying on a bench east of the Iowa City Farmer’s Market in the Chauncey Swan Parking Ramp at approximately 6:37 am when police were called to check up on him.

Jones sat up to talk with officers, and they reportedly discovered a plastic bag that had been under him with a white crystal-like substance known to be methamphetamine.  A search incident to arrest allegedly found a glass pipe for smoking the drug.

Jones was charged with Meth possession and possession of drug paraphernalia, and could be sentenced to up to 13 months in jail if convicted on both counts.
