The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says a woman arrested for drunk driving tried calling 9-1-1 multiple times while in custody at the University of Iowa Police station.

Iowa City Police were dispatched to Menard’s on Naples Avenue just before 9pm Saturday for a reported domestic dispute inside a vehicle. Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies located the vehicle on Highway 1 westbound about five miles away. A male juvenile passenger told officers he had been in a physical altercation with the driver, identified as 34-year-old Erica Stiles of Fort Dodge.

Investigators say multiple containers of alcohol were found inside the car, including an empty one in the driver’s side door and another on the floor. Stiles reportedly admitted several times that she was drunk, and officers say she showed multiple signs of intoxication.

Stiles refused a portable Breathalyzer test and was taken to UIPD headquarters on South Capitol Street for a Datamaster test. While there she allegedly became belligerent and attempted to call 9-1-1 multiple times.

Stiles is charged with Operating While Intoxicated – 2nd Offense and Making a False Report to 9-1-1.
