The Iowa City Police Department has released the names of the officers and the victim involved in last week’s shooting incident on the Southeast side.

The officers were identified as ten-year veteran Travis Neeld and nine-year veteran Alex Stricker. They responded to two burglar alarms, at Pizza Hut and at Second Act, at approximately 2:30am May 9th.

While investigating the alarms, they located 34-year-old Michael Arturo Cintron Caceres in the area. A foot chase ensued, with Caceres located in the fenced-in area behind Big Ten Rentals on Boyrum Street. That’s where the shooting occurred.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has interviewed the officers and they remain on administrative leave per department policy. Caceres remains hospitalized in stable condition, according to the release from the ICPD.

Cintron Caceres has been charged with two counts of Robbery in the First Degree stemming from two incidents unrelated to the May 9th shooting. On May 7th, he’s accused of forcing a cash register open and stealing approximately $280 from the Suburban BP Amoco on Keokuk Street. He’s also accused of threatening a cashier at Romantix and forcing the register there, taking over $100 in cash.

Cintron Caceres was previously arrested on May 4th for an April 21st theft from the Waterfront HyVee, where he’s accused of taking two cases of Bud Light and Coors Light out of the store without paying for them. That theft was recorded on store surveillance. Charges from that incident and the subsequent resisting of that arrest carry a maximum sentence of 15 months in prison.
