There’s just as many candidates who say they’re NOT running for the US 2nd Congressional District seat as there are committed to run.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports Monday that Wilton Republican Bobby Kaufmann has decided not to run, despite getting support and encouragement from constituents.

Kaufmann said Sunday that he will instead seek a 5th term in Iowa House District 73.

Last week, Dr. Christopher Peters announced that HE would not seek the seat. Peters ran two unsuccessful campaigns against Democrat Dave Loebsack, who says his current term is his last.

So far, only two people have officially declared their intention to run; Democrat Rita Hart, former candidate for Lieutenant Governor, and Republican Thomas Kedley, the mayor of Osceola.
