A continuance request has been denied for an Iowa City man facing charges that he sexually abused a child.

Judgement and sentencing for 31-year-old Scott Michael Suhr of East Court Street is set for Monday. On Friday Suhr’s lawyers requested a continuance…a request that was denied by Judge Andrew Chappell.

Suhr, a former employee of Longfellow Elementary School, allegedly performed sex acts on a child under the age of 12 from 2016 to 2018. The victim described the acts to police…the details of which were later corroborated by Suhr in an interview with investigators.

Suhr is charged with 2nd Degree Sexual Abuse. If convicted on that charge, he faces a maximum of 25 years in prison.

Monday’s hearing is set for 11:30am at the Johnson County Courthouse.
