An Iowa City man faces charges that he tried to break into an apartment early Saturday morning.
Iowa City Police were called to 637 South Lucas Street just before 3am for a subject trying to aggressively enter the residence by ripping off a window screen. The residents believed the man was going to assault them once he gained entry, so one of them intervened.
Arriving officers found the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Marcus Brown of Bowery Street, in the yard next to the building. He showed multiple signs of intoxication, and registered a blood alcohol content of .278 on a post-arrest breath test.
Brown was arrested and charged with Attempted 2nd Degree Burglary, 5th Degree Criminal Mischief and Public Intoxication. If convicted, he faces a maximum of over five years in prison.
