A Quad Cities man was arrested early Saturday morning after he was allegedly found armed with a loaded gun and carrying drugs during an Iowa City traffic stop.

Iowa City Police pulled over 22-year-old Justice O’Conner of Bettendorf for a traffic violation just before 1:45 Saturday morning near the corner of Gilbert and Burlington Streets. A marijuana smell was emanating from O’Conner’s Ford Escape, and he appeared to be trying to hide something. A probable cause search of the vehicle turned up a loaded firearm in the driver’s side door, as well as marijuana nuggets. Police say O’Conner admitted the gun was his and that he’d just gotten his permit a few days earlier.

A search of O’Conner’s person allegedly turned up a baggie of cocaine in his pocket.

O’Conner’s blood alcohol content was measured at .109. He’s charged with Possession of a Dangerous Weapon While Intoxicated, Operating While Intoxicated – 2nd Offense, and two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of five years in prison.
