A North Liberty man was taken into custody after allegedly threatening the life of a Cross Park Place staff member.

According to police, 43-year-old Jerald Navarre of Fawn Drive was engaged in an argument with another man at Cross Park Place in Iowa City Monday at approximately 5pm. Navarre reportedly began arguing with a staff member, who told officers she was scared for her safety. She began to back away from Navarre, and he allegedly raised his hands, balled them into fists, and told the woman that she had “seconds to live.”

The staff member, at this point legitimately in fear for her safety, began to back away farther from Navarre, but he reportedly blocked her path to prevent her escape from his presence.

Witnesses who knew Navarre allegedly corroborated the story and said they were concerned he was going to follow through and cause harm to the woman.

Police took Navarre into custody and charged him with False Imprisonment and 1st Degree Harassment. If convicted on both charges, Navarre could be sentenced to up to three years in prison.
