An Iowa City man has been taken into custody after an alleged altercation involving his estranged wife.
According to arrest reports, 35-year-old Corbin Ranslem of Langenberg Avenue went to the woman’s residence on Russell Drive Monday afternoon around 1:30 to meet up and take a walk.
During the walk, Ranslem’s phone fell out of his pocket, and his estranged wife confronted him about it. Police say this led to an argument which turned physical over the device. The woman alleges that Ranslem pushed her down and got on top of her to get the phone back from her, injuring her left arm and back.
When asked about the incident, Ranslem reportedly admitted that the phone caused an argument that turned into a “struggle.”
Ranslem’s phone was destroyed during the altercation.
He was taken into custody and charged with domestic abuse assault causing injury, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to one year if convicted.
