The University of Iowa Health Care is now accepting cloth mask donations.
In a released from UIHC, the decision to accept homemade cloth masks from individuals and manufacturers comes as a way for employees who don’t have face-to-face contact with patients to have the option to wear their own cloth masks in addition to mandatory face shields.
UI Health Care employees that do have face-to-face contact with patients began wearing medical-grade face masks underneath their mandatory face shields yesterday.
People who wish to make masks to donate can choose from one of two patterns on their website. The masks must come from smoke free-, dust-free, pet-free and illness-free environments. The fabric must be new, laundered in scent-free detergent, and stored in a non-scented, new plastic bag for delivery.
More details on how to get the mask pattern, other items acceptable for donations, and how to arrange a drop-off are available at www.uihc.org/kind-donations.
