An early morning traffic stop near Swisher has led to the arrest of a Cedar Rapids man suspected of stealing tools, bicycles and other items.

A Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy noticed a northbound Dodge Ram run the stop sign at Highway 965 and 120th Street, just east of Swisher, at 5:48am Saturday. Before the deputy could activate his lights, the driver pulled into a driveway just north of Anderson Cemetery in an apparent attempt to avoid the officer.

The homeowners at the address said they didn’t know the driver, identified as 23-year-old Dallas Clark of F Avenue Northwest. The truck had license plates that did not match, and a license check of Clark showed him as barred.

The truck contained several tools, bicycles and other items the officer believed to be stolen. Online records show Clark has multiple theft and burglary convictions out of Linn County, and is currently awaiting an August sentencing on one 2nd Degree Theft and two 3rd Degree Burglary charges.

Clark now faces a charge of Driving While Barred, which carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison.
