An Oxford man wanted on warrants for an alleged assault has been charged for an incident that occurred over the weekend.

Police say 33-year-old Eric Swanson of Nemora Avenue assaulted the woman at his home at approximately 3:30am Sunday. He’s accused of grabbing her and forcing her to the ground. The woman suffered bruising and a possible broken nose.

Swanson then allegedly choked the woman by grabbing her with his arm and squeezing it around her neck until she was unable to breathe. She told authorities she thought she was going to die during the incident.

A warrant was requested for Swanson, who was taken to the Johnson County Jail Tuesday afternoon. He was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Impeding Airflow and Domestic Abuse Assault causing Injury. He faces a maximum of three years in prison if convicted on both counts.

Swanson was released that evening and was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim by judge Deborah Minot.
