An 18-year-old Iowa City man faces up to 25 years in prison after being arrested on a warrant stemming from an April burglary in the city.

Investigators determined that Dayvel Faulkner of South Van Buren Street was accompanied by two other co-defendants during the incident that occurred on April 3rd around 2am. The three were in contact with two juvenile females who were hanging out with two alleged victims. The girls told Faulkner their location and they went to the parking lot, located in the 3500 block of Eastwood Street.

One of the juvenile girls went down to the parking lot to get something out of one of the girls’ cars, accompanied by one of the males. That’s when Faulkner and his reported accomplices exited their vehicle. Faulkner and another man struck the victim in the face with a firearm, then demanded that he take them up to his apartment.

Once inside, the three are accused of hitting the man’s roommate in the face with a firearm, and another allegedly fired a round from the gun that went into a neighboring apartment. The three reportedly made off with over $2200 in cash from a safe, a cellphone and a set of keys.

Both victims identified Faulkner as one of the assailants, one allegedly knowing him personally. The two juvenile females also identified Faulkner as one of the suspects.

A warrant for Faulkner’s arrest was issued on May 27th, the day after he allegedly led Coralville Police on a high-speed chase through a residential area. The chase ended near the intersection of 5th Street and First Avenue when he abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. He was later found in the area and reportedly admitted to being the man officers were looking for. He was charged with Eluding and Interference with Official Acts for that incident.

Faulkner was located and taken to the Johnson County Jail Monday morning. He’s been charged with 1st degree Robbery, a Class B Felony. He also faces up to 25 months in jail for the May 26th incident.

He remains in jail on a $50,000 bond.
