A police chase exceeding 100 miles per hour on Highway 218 ended with the arrest of a Cedar Rapids man Thursday night.

A Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy clocked a 2015 Ford Fusion doing 102 miles per hour in a 65 mile per hour zone near the Rohret Road overpass just before 6:45pm. The vehicle allegedly tried to elude law enforcement by exiting the highway, turning down a dead-end street and pulling into an unrelated homeowner’s driveway.

Deputies say the driver, 22-year-old Ryan Harapat of 27th Avenue SW, exceeded over 100 miles per hour while driving down residential streets. He was arrested and charged with Eluding and Speeding. If convicted, he faces a maximum of two years in prison.
