A local transient faces charges that he threatened a convenience store clerk after stealing cigarettes.
According to arrest records, 54-year-old Charles Annis stole two packs of Newport cigarettes from the Highway 1 Delimart in Iowa City just before 1:15 Sunday afternoon. The theft was captured on security video, which was turned over to Iowa City Police.
Just before 5:30 that night officers were called back to Delimart because Annis was allegedly threatening to assault one of the employees. As Annis was being escorted out of the store, he allegedly flipped off the employee and threatened to find him when he was away from the business.
Annis is charged with Assault and 5th Degree Theft. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of 60 days in jail.
