Driving below the speed limit doesn’t usually call much attention to police, but driving over 40 miles below the speed limit on a highway led to the arrest of a Williamsburg man for OWI.

Police reportedly observed 35-year-old Christopher Vaughn driving at 22 miles an hour on Highway 218 Sunday night at approximately 9:40.  He also allegedly crossed the fog line and drove over a cement center median.

When stopped, he had the odor of ingested alcohol and watery eyes. He allegedly admitted to having three tall beers at nearby Riverside Casino.  A check of his PBT showed him over the legal limit,  and Vaughn refused a Datamaster test.

A check of his driving records showed a previous OWI from Texas in 2014.

Vaughn was charged with his second OWI, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to two years if convicted.
