A Coralville man faces a drunk driving charge after police say they found him with a vehicle that was missing a tire.
Coralville Police say they encountered 40-year-old Omar Diaz of Holiday Road just after 8:30 Thanksgiving night after his 2015 Hyundai Sonata experienced a flat tire at 1st Avenue and Interstate 80. Diaz reportedly told investigators that he was driving when he felt a bump, causing the entire tire to come off. Police checked for the tire in the area where Diaz claimed it was lost, but they were unable to find it.
Diaz allegedly showed signs of intoxication and admitted to drinking. Police say his brother arrived to fix the tire and stated that Diaz had consumed at least two glasses of wine during dinner.
Diaz reportedly performed poorly on field sobriety tests. His breath alcohol level was recorded at .228%.
Diaz was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated.
