An area transient was arrested early Friday morning after allegedly trying to steal items from an employee locker room at an Iowa City hotel.

Police say 38-year-old Kofi Adu Sarkodie entered the Hampton Inn on Sturgis Corner Drive at around 4am through the west side door. He then allegedly went into the employee locker room, which is only accessible by using a key card provided to employees.

Members of the hotel staff reportedly observed Sarkodie going through an employee’s locker. They  confronted Sarkodie and asked him to leave.

Sarkodie was taken into custody and charged with 3rd degree Burglary, a Class D Felony. He faces up to five years in prison if convicted.
