An Iowa City woman was charged with Theft after allegedly switching tags and skip scanning after a series of events at the Coralville Walmart.

Loss prevention informed authorities that 43-year-old Angela Fitzgerald of Essex Street had stolen from them on several occasions. They included November 28th, December 3rd, December 9th, and December 14th.  All of the reported thefts were captured on closed-circuit TV cameras. The total amount of merchandise allegedly stolen totaled nearly $560.

Fitzgerald was reportedly back at the store on December 26th and was stopped by loss prevention, who told her she needed to skip the self-checkout and go to a manned cash register.  Fitzgerald allegedly didn’t have enough money to pay for the $527 in items she selected and told them she was going to the ATM, but she reportedly did not return.

Fitzgerald was informed by loss prevention that she was being trespassed from the store.

She’s been charged with 4th degree Theft, a serious misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail if convicted.
