A Tiffin man has been arrested for two separate incidents earlier this month.

The first incident occurred at the Iowa City Kwik Star on Keokuk Street at 4:39am April 1st. 31-year-old Matthew Gerot of Hickory Court reportedly filled up his vehicle using a stolen credit card, with the victim incurring a charge of just over $40. When the victim reported the alleged theft, police reviewed KwikStar transaction logs and were able to pull up security footage from that date and time to identify Gerot as the suspect.

When interviewed by police, he allegedly admitted to using the victim’s card and knew it didn’t belong to him.

A check of his criminal record showed Gerot with two previous Johnson County theft convictions.

Police stopped Gerot just after Midnight on April 5th as he was allegedly speeding while driving on Sand Road near its intersection with Napoleon Street Southeast.  A check of his driving status showed it as barred for being an habitual offender.

A warrant for Gerot’s arrest was issued on April 8th, and he was arrested Sunday. He’s been charged with Unauthorized use of a Credit Card, 3rd degree Theft, and Driving while Barred. If convicted on all three counts, he could be sentenced to  up to six years in prison.
